Mayor of Irondale, AL, James D. Stewart is a proven public servant and financial leader with more than 33 years of experience in public and personal finance. His career began as an accountant with the United States Postal Service and evolved into a lifelong commitment to strengthening communities through disciplined, values-driven leadership. As City Clerk of Irondale for seven years, he oversaw a $25-million municipal budget, safeguarded the city’s official records, analyzed investments, and managed key revenue functions, including licenses, permits, and disbursements, ensuring transparency, accountability, and fiscal stability.
A graduate of Tennessee State University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Mayor Stewart brings rare depth through advanced training, national leadership programs, and multiple municipal certifications.
He has served Irondale as a City Councilor and Mayor Pro Tempore, leads both the Downtown Redevelopment Authority and the Chamber of Commerce, and is a respected voice in community and economic development. Grounded in faith, family, and service, Mayor Stewart’s leadership reflects integrity, preparation, and a clear vision for Irondale’s continued growth.
